No matter your background, personal history, age, ethnicity, culture, marital status, self-image, esteem, past or present religious affiliation; We believe in a warm, friendly and diverse congregation, offering outreach and a variety of ministry services to our growing community. You are invited, welcomed, accepted, loved and respected at The Basilica of The Sacred Heart of Jesus.
My dear friends,
In 1898, an intrepid group of priests and parishioners inaugurated a new moment in the history of our parish, the building of our beautiful red brick church in what many people of the day felt was too far from the location of the old church. Dedicated as Sacred Heart, a change of name from the original Sts. Peter and Paul, our Church’s earliest members had the vision to look to the future growth of a city too busy to stop growing.
At Sacred Heart we are called to sustain that bold vision through our dedication to Catholic formation through the Gospel, the Sacraments we share and the Fellowship we profess with one another. Each time you visit Sacred Heart, whether as a long time member or a visitor, that heritage beckons us, rich, poor, young and old, men, women and children, to be one family in one faith. Sacred Heart has been a welcoming home to the migrant from other lands, the transplant from other parts of our country and we have accepted the call to care for the needy in our own parish area.
Take a moment to look through our website and consider whether God may be calling you to belong and get involved. God bless you always!
Msgr. Ed Thein, Rector
