Rector's Message

FR_ED
Dear Friends in Christ,

Remember the popular song of the late 1970’s “We are family”?  I recall how my hometown baseball team adopted the song for their run to the World Series.

We are family is a good reflection for us as a Catholic family. Two special days mark our calendar: the feast days of All Saints and All Souls.

All Saints is the remembrance of our family in heaven.  All Souls is our remembrance for family awaiting that glory after their death.  Both the Saints and the Souls are still part of our Catholic family.

The Saints celebrate the glory of unity with God.  The Souls may benefit from our prayers even still; this is the basis of our Catholic belief in Purgatory as that time of waiting for the Souls.

We participate in the All Souls Day Mass and include the names of loved ones who have died who may still need our prayers as they await the heavenly invitation.  Throughout the year, we may also include special Mass intentions to remember them.  If a family member has already been welcomed to God’s glory, prayers are never wasted but applied wherever needed most.

We are family is a reminder that the victory of Christ’s cross and resurrection is for us all, living and dead; an occasion to celebrate, offering the Mass which unites us as a family.

The Padre
